One of the hallmarks of iterative polyketide synthases (PKSs) is the programming mechanism which is essential for the generation of structurally diverse polyketide products. In partially reducing iterative PKSs (PR-PKSs), the programming mechanism is mainly dictated by the ketoreductase (KR) domain.
